I have notice that as of late, some makeup artist have developed a makeup
style towards Lady Gaga Fashion Makeup and applied it to brides on their actual
wedding day.
Personally, I feel that the image is too “loud” for wedding makeup.
If you notice carefully in the details, the skin tone on the face and body is of
different colour too! The makeup is also too thick for bridal makeup.
Not to flame anyone, but I really feel that a good bridal makeup should
really be natural and enhance your features so that it can stand the test of
time. I am sure you would not want to look at your wedding photos after 20 years
and feel that you look like another person during your wedding day!
Lady Gaga has always been the icon of fashion and if you really like
fashion, I feel that fashion makeup is best applied when you go for dinner and dance or parties, where you can be the starlet of the event.
Lady Gaga is also coming to Singapore for her concert on May 28, 29 and 31st 2012. For a chance to see her in action and be wowed by her makeup, go buy her concert tickets!

Hi Liren,
I agree with you sometimes brides makeup are more sophisticated because that's their personality and they were specifically hunting for a makeup artist who could give them that kind of look in their wedding.
From my point of view (I'm a photographer), generally its better to have a more nude and natural look in church wedding because the environment is more suitable.
But sometimes it actually is quite important to have slightly heavier makeup and hair-styling in ballrooms due to the fact that lighting is very poor and when most lady guests are having quite a heavy makeup.
A bride who has a nude and plain makeup and hairstyling in a poorly lighted ballroom, standing beside the lady guests who put on heavier makeup actually makes the bride looks pale and sickly.
I'm not sure if that kind of pale and unsophisticated look is what they want to remember when they look at their photos 20 years down the road.
Besides, I realise that sophisticated makeup and hairstyling is actually technically more difficult to learn and execute well. So I guess that's probably that's why many brides are willing to pay more to get that kind of look on their big day.
And a makeup artist who is versatile enough to do a nude and natural look for church and ROM weddings, as well as technically skilled enough to do a more sophisticated look is worth paying more for as well.
The only thing I don't really understand is why would some brides pay so much for well-known makeup artists to do just simple makeup and simple hairstyle which most other makeup artist can do quite easily achieve as well.
At the end of the day, i guess its really a matter of preference for the bride. Ultimately, customer is the king (queen in this case).
Well said!! 100% agree with above Anonymous writer.
Hihi Liren,
I drop by to your blog quite often...always refreshing to see some authentic views from you, I'm sure many brides benefited from your sharing.
You are very right that the bride (the not so slim bride) in the first picture really seems to have had the makeup overdone.
The base seems really too thick, blusher really too bright and pink, eye liner too thick (made the eyes looked smaller than it is). I supposed that the makeup artist is quite amateur in her makeup skills to have caused that rather than her trying to attempt a lady gaga look. I’m sure Lady Gaga’s makeup artist could have made this bride look much better even when using gaga’s signature makeup looks.
Also, just wondering if you meant to refer those 3 photos (half faced ones) as lady gaga looks as well? Compared to the first bride's photo, I tot these 3 were pretty well done and not really considered really loud makeups like lady gaga.
Base was quite blending with the bride's skin, blusher seems well balanced and the blending of the eye shadow with the fake eye lashes made the eyes look bigger and sharper.
Well, maybe those 3 also not the best look for a church wedding lah but i tot those looks will look wonderful when doing the march-in down the ballroom aisles with all the artificial spot light and ballroom lights. Looks great if wearing a designer evening gown during second march in as well (don't think a natural and nude makeup will be able to match with a nice long wedding gown or an elaborated evening gown).
The makeup artist who did that more sophisticated look should be quite skilled. Any idea who that makeup artist might be?
Awaiting your reply, thanks!!
I do agree that there is no right or wrong on the kind of makeup. It’s a style where brides prefer to have on their wedding day.
For the second photo on this page, I personally feel that the makeup is a tad too heavy and would be good if its more light and natural.
On my own thoughts, I just feel that sometimes, K-I-S-S might be a better approach to bridal makeup as not all brides are suitable for fashion style kind of makeup. Of course, if brides do request for the more “loud” kind of fashion makeup, then that would be their choice. :)
The same makeup style, done on different faces, can have a totally different feel. The first picture proves just that. Moreover, the skill of the makeup artist plays a big role. If I were to paint the Mona Lisa, it will not be the same as the way Da Vinci painted it.
You get what you paid for.
Do you know Lady Gaga was writing songs for the PussyCat Dolls before she became famous?
