Hello everyone! Sorry for not updating for so long – I have
been really busy!
Anyway, I will get straight to the point. Today, I will write
about how to become a responsible makeup artist.
Every makeup artist must have several personality traits:
willingness to learn and practice, confidence, creativity, dedication, patience,
attention to detail, and passion.
These combined with a thick skin and a wish to satisfy every
client creates successful makeup artists. Skill can be taught and mastery can
only be gained through practice.
If these core traits are not present in every makeup artist,
they can be the most talented artist in the world but will not make it anywhere
because their personalities are not suited for the business and they may be
irresponsible when it comes to dealing with clients
What does it mean to be responsible?
Here are a few
points:
1.) Always treat your clients like you would your elders: with
respect and dignity. Their tastes may not 100% align with your style or may not
make them look their best, so take the time to explain to them why your
viewpoints differ and, if necessary, compromise. Never argue.
2.) Scheduled events with your clients should not be cancelled
at the last minute, especially if that event is their wedding or a similar major
function.
3.) Arrive early to an event. Ensure that you have all your
supplies and that they are clean. Stay for the entire duration that was agreed
upon or until the job is done. Make sure you are dressed professionally and
appropriately if you are going to be visible for the event. For example, please
do not wear red if you are covering a public funeral.
4.) Do only what you are trained to do and/or most comfortable
with. If the client wants a certain hairstyle that you have never done before,
it is better to say so than to do a bad job. As cliché as the phrase is,
remember that honesty is the best policy.
If you follow these steps and just keep on painting, you will
be on your way to becoming a successful makeup artist!
